Eldorado!
A Northgate  Training Game

  Particularly useful for a large gathering of
    people wanting an activity that is:

A training game with the WOW! Factor. Ideal for conferences and seminars with large numbers, this is a 90 minute exercise with a debrief on top. Charities all over the world are thanking us for this game which is making them a fortune - and all due to participant incompetence!

Teams in Eldorado! can make a monetary contribution before they start - usually this means each person paying £1. But some organisations insist on £10! Others use points instead of money. This all goes into the Treasure Bucket for which the maximum so far has been £1700, which then becomes the prize for the winning team. But if it is not won it goes to a charity of the company's choice. Winning demands teamwork, which is why the charities are so often happy recipients.

This game helps check out the teamwork within organisations. What soon becomes clear from this exercise is that most organisations do not create the right team atmosphere. Instead they create departments who are rivals and competitors, not readily sharing information and resources and out to win for themselves and not for the organisation as a whole.

Eldorado! reveals this situation time after time and allows key learning to take place by showing the virtues of co-operation and the downside of groups refusing to work together. And it shows this in the most dramatic way.

Each team - and you can have up to 10 teams in one game - has a briefing folder with instructions and a colour Treasure Map. All they have to do is to solve some problems including locating the treasure; find the right key to the treasure chest and they will win the money in the Treasure Bucket. So far only a few teams have won the money. What normally happens is that individual teams try anything to win the money even though it soon becomes clear that all teams must work with one another if they ever want to get their money back!

Previously seven teams have joined together but were unable to convince the other three to join them, even though time was running out and the prize was slipping away from them. Sharing information is vital for success in this game - and in business!

On one event, teams were told at the start that they should co-operate; one team even drew up an agreement protocol for all teams to sign. Lack of trust, an unwillingness to share and more than a dash of competitive spirit almost spelt disaster until at the 11th hour the group pulled it off and won the treasure TOGETHER!

Duration:     2 hours

Numbers:     This training resource is specially designed for large numbers at a training conferences, seminar or events.                     While you can run it with just six teams, it works most effectively with ten teams or more. If you have                     numbers above 60 it may be worth running two or more packs simultaneously. Within each team 4-6 is                     ideal though we have run it with 8 or 10 in a team!
