SignLines is a compact, challenging, exercise relating to group management and communication, which highlights key themes in organisational and personal development.

Learning Outcomes
The training material provides a perfect opportunity to develop the following key areas:

Communication
Establishing a common language and meaning, describing processes As well as items, ensuring shared understanding of team activity plans, developing active listening and visual references to assist team communications.

Problem Solving
Eliciting and evaluating alternative possible actions, building process reviews into team activity, operating simultaneous activities ensuring the effectiveness of a plan before it is made public.

Team Organisation
Building well understood activity plans, ensuring that all team members can and do participate, using a central information reference point.

Performance Improvement
Illustrating the need for controlled rehearsal, ensuring that everyone is clear about expectations, working within strict deadlines.

How It Works
The group are given a number of cards bearing symbols, which together form a complete grid of 30 cards.

Their task is to complete the grid with each card in its correct position.

The group can only have one attempt, during a time period of 30 seconds, to assemble the grid correctly.

No card may be shown to any other participant, nor may cards be exchanged or passed to other participants. No written information or recording of symbols is permitted during the exercise. Information exchange is through verbal communication only.

Duration:     40 minutes plus debrief time

Numbers:     6 to 30 participants (for each training activity)
